UK TOUR Spring 2013

JULIAN'S LOOKING FOR LOVE...AGAIN!

One of Julian Clary's most successful shows in more than 30 years as the UK's best-loved purveyor of saucy innuendo, Position Vacant: Apply Within toured to sold-out houses throughout the country in the Autumn of 2012. It's back by public demand in Spring 2013 ... read more

"This was a spectacular show that left the audience breathless with laughter. But I suspect the point was to soften us up for a real and heartfelt message. The final song "Being straight is okay – but it’s cool to be gay," describes the daily challenges still faced by gay people all over the world. It is sincere and delivered with great pathos..."  Nottingham Post

"Julian’s show is great fun and a fantastic way to spend an evening..."  Milton Keynes Web

Audience Reviews on  Ticketmaster

"Looking for love, in holiday-camp style..."
The Times

"Hilarious ... Julian delivers his unique deadpan putdowns over and over, and it's very funny ... Mr Clary at his best..."  The Bristol Post

"Julian has always been able to make me laugh until I can barely breathe but his performance this time round also gave me - and everyone else it seemed - something to think about..."  This Is South Wales

"I honestly laughed out loud from start to finish..."  This Is Kent

"It is classic, and maybe even vintage, Clary stuff but why change a formula that has kept you at the very top of your game for a generation?"  WhatsOnStage.com

"It's all a good laugh, but at the heart of all this mirth is a powerful message."  North Devon Journal

"With a steady and reliable stream of double entendres and tales about his triumphant time in the Big Brother House, Clary kept the audience in laughs and whoops."  Norwich Evening News

"Towering over the audience on stilts and dressed in ra-ra style trousers, Julian Clary charmed the audience with his outrageous style from the off."  Shropshire Star

THE SHOW

JULIAN’S LOOKING FOR LOVE...AGAIN!

Position Vacant: Apply Within is Julian Clary's inimitable night of camp comedy. It climaxes with the national treasure and winner of Celebrity Big Brother marrying a member of the audience live on stage. The ceremony also involves confetti, a member of the clergy, and bridesmaids. And more besides.

"At the end Clary shows that there is still some satirical edge to a proudly gay man staging his own mock wedding" (Dominic Maxwell, The Times).

One of Julian Clary’s most successful shows in more than 30 years as the UK’s best-loved purveyor of saucy innuendo, Position Vacant: Apply Within toured to sold-out houses throughout the country in the Autumn of 2012. It’s back by public demand in Spring 2013.

"Once again", says Julian, "there's bound to be stiff competition for my hand. That's why I'll be hosting ruthless elimination games. But you can be sure of one thing. By the end of the evening, we’ll all be celebrating my new partnership."

Tony Glynn of the North Devon Journal said of the opening night, "It's all a good laugh, but at the heart of all this mirth is a powerful message."

At the age of 53 ("In gay years that’s 371", he claims) Julian Clary remains one of the UK's busiest writers and performers on stage and screen. In 2012 he guested on such TV favourites as Would I Lie to You?, Q.I. and Live at the Apollo. He remains a regular panellist on radio’s Just a Minute and stars each Christmas in one of the country's biggest pantos. For the 2012-13 season he headlines with Nigel Havers and Lee Mead in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton. He's also a best-selling novelist. His third book, Briefs Encountered, was published last March to unanimous praise.

Julian’s previous tour, Lord of the Mince, was so successful that it played for 140 dates across the UK, Australia and New Zealand and was then recorded for DVD. "The audience – gay, straight, young, old – loved Clary and it was easy to understand why", said Bruce Dessau in the Evening Standard.

"Still an incredibly funny stand-up comedian" (What’s On Stage, October 2012)

"A flippin’ national treasure" (Time Out, November 2012)

"Is he gay? I'm not sure" (Comment on YouTube, 2011)
